Timber Care
The use of timber for residential dwellings has been around for hundreds of years.
Of course, when left in their natural state timbers are affected by the environment. Untreated, the harsh Australian weather conditions will cause changes in the look of your beautiful new timber log building.
There are a number of top quality timber preservatives, varnishes, stains and paints available that will, if applied correctly, vastly reduce timbers splitting, discolouring, warping and undergoing other unwanted changes.
Most commonly the look and feel of a log cabin is what attracts most people to this type of building in the first place, so to make sure that this look is maintained for the longest possible time period must be seen as essential.
Your timber log building will be supplied to you in its raw state, untreated, to enable you to apply your preferred surface finish. However, a pest and fungi treatment MUST be applied to all timber surfaces, ideally before the individual timber logs are assembled, to ensure that even surfaces that will not be exposed to direct sunlight or rain are protected.
After some research “Timber Log Buildings Australia” decided to use and recommend the range of CUTEK Wood Protection Products.
CUTEK works differently to most other leading wood coatings. Unlike traditional wood finishes, CUTEK oil has been uniquely developed to diffuse very deeply into the timber.
Wood soaks up CUTEK just like a sponge – providing protection from moisture, improving long term dimensional stability and minimising warping, cupping and splitting. CUTEK Wood Preservative coated wood also resists damage caused by fungal decay, mold and termites.
CUTEK comes as a clear oil so you have the choice of preserving your timber’s character by letting it weather naturally to an attractive silver patina, or retaining its original freshly oiled colour by adding one of the wood protector Colourtones.
NOTE - IMPORTANT - some color tones contain white pigments that under certain conditions can cause the wood surface to appear "milky". Consequently, we do NOT recommend using "White Ash, Burnt Ash, Light Oak, Grey Mist and Smokey Grey".
